Trustees

CTSW is a charity founded in 1996 to help satisfy a demand from members of the community who find it difficult to access other forms of transport owing to disability, cost or a lack of another transport service.

Over the years our local charity has formed a strong relationship with its member clients in developing a key role in combating loneliness and isolation in the communities in and around Salisbury and South Wiltshire.

Whilst the Board of Trustees has done well to keep the charity solvent and well organised through its dedicated staff and volunteers over many years, it is considered prudent to look to the future and recruit additional trustees who could carry the charity well into the future. Fundraising, promotional and legal support are key aspects of this, most importantly an active contribution with our decision making processes would help to keep our services safe for the future. Trustees meet six times a year at a time and place to suit all, to oversee and direct the charity.

The board is open to all, and its strength is derived from the experience, skills and other qualities brought by its members. There are different ways for people to get involved in the life of the organisation and being involved in our corporate governance as a trustee is one such way. We have more than one vacancy on the Board of Trustees which is open to members, volunteers and anybody in the community with an interest in helping people.

In today’s business environment we need people with experience in legal, accountancy, fund raising, community work, and business to guide the charity through the minefield of legislation continually being passed. However, despite this, common sense has been found to be a very valuable commodity that is just as important in ensuring success.

As trustees we work within well-defined boundaries, as set out in our Constitution. We constantly review our performance as a board to ensure we are complementing and adding value to the work of our paid staff team. We hope that by reading this you’ll be inspired to want to join our team. If you feel you have credentials to add even more strength to our board, we look forward to hearing from you.

In Amesbury, we also operate the popular Amesbury Hoppa community bus service that serves the whole community and some minibus Shopper services. We foresee the need for community transport services to expand as the town and its catchment areas develop, hence a desire to include representation on the board.

The CTSW operation is run day to day by salaried staff based in Salisbury, paid minibus drivers and volunteer car drivers. The trustees’ role is one of overseeing, directing and policy making, with each member of the board playing a role suited to their experience, skills and inclination.

Becoming a CTSW trustee is open to all (except paid staff) and applicants with any experience of charity work, accountancy, fund raising, legal and transport are particularly welcome, but not exclusively.

CTSW enjoys a friendly, co-operative atmosphere between everybody involved with its work and anyone accepted on to the Board of Trustees will be made very welcome.
